Okay! So you want to know how Feeding works! Once you understand the mechanics you can know what all the symbols mean and how long you have until you have to feed your fish. I know my Guide is a bit wordy because I've tried to lay it out in general terms that can be applied to all fish no matter what type they are.
Terms I Use:
Fish - Your Fish.
Hunger Timer - This is the length of time it takes your Fish to reach the Red Food Icon after just being fed. This is twice the Growth Interval after just being fed.
Growth Interval - This is the time it takes an Fish to reach the next Age.
Half a Growth Interval - Half the time it takes your Fish to reach the next Age.
Age - How many Growth Intervals your Fish has gone through.
Yellow Food Icon - Shows up when your Fish are at 75% or less of it's Hunger Timer and will last until the Hunger Timer reaches 0.
Red Food Icon - Shows up when your Fish reaches the end of it's Hunger Timer and lasts for Half a Growth Interval. Fish stops growing.
Flashing Red Food Icon - This appears when your Fish is 20% of a Hunger Timer away from Death. Fish stops growing.
Dead - When your Fish actually dies.
Just Bought an Egg:
1) The Hunger Timer on a newly hatched egg is Half a Growth Interval.
2) Once you feed it, the Hunger Timer will reset to TWICE it's Growth Interval.
Rules No Matter What:
1) All fish need to be fed, no matter how old they are.
2) All fish have Growth Intervals, no matter how old they are.
3) When you feed a fish, it's Hunger Timer gets reset to TWICE it's Growth Interval.
Age 4 Fish:
1) Once your Fish reaches Age 4, it immediately gains 23 and a half hours to it's Growth Interval, with the exceptions of the Fast Fish which all become 1 day fish.
2) Also, it's Hunger Timer is reset to the maximum for it's Growth Interval.
How the Food Icons Work:
1) When you see a Yellow Food Icon it means that your fish has 75% of it's Hunger Timer left.
2) When your fish reaches the end of it's Hunger Timer, it will gain a Red Food Icon, but it won't be Dead yet. IT STILL HAS HALF OF A GROWTH INTERVAL LEFT UNTIL IT WILL BE DEAD.
3) When your fish reaches 80% of a Half Growth Interval while the Food Icon is Red, it will turn into a Flashing Red Food Icon. At this point you have 20% of the time of a Half Growth Interval to feed it or, IT WILL DIE.
I know that last statement can be confusing so what does this mean for your Fish?
If a fish has just been fed, you have 2 and 1/2 Growth Intervals until your fish is Dead from hunger.
What is important to remember is that the Hunger Timer on a Fish is based on it's Growth Interval, but feeding the fish only sets the Timer back to full and has no effect on it's Growth. As long a a fish does not have a Red or Flashing Red Food Icon, it will continue to grow at the rate stated by it's Growth Interval until it reaches Age 4.
